his domestic circle those whom the chances of
life has separated from the country of their birth
and kindred, in offering advice as to all that appertains
to a forest life, and constantly using every
argument to implant on the mind of the emigrant
the necessity to flee from a life of pleasure and dissipation
and of all things to cherish one of disciplined
temper - virtuous habits - industry - sobriety - prudence
in all things - and religious principles
It is thus that this excellent man is spending
the last days of his life beloved and respected by
all who have the honour and who are fortunate enough
to have his acquaintance

On entering the house Mrs. Mathews soon
made the table redolent with cakes of her own baking
condiments of her own preserving - wines and Cordials
of her own manufacture - a variety of apples
from her own garden which are famed throughout
the neighbourhood for their beauty and flavour
The agreeable society of a good looking young person
of sixteen years of age adds much to the comfort
of these excellent people Mr. Matthews having no
child of his own has adopted this young lady
who calls him uncle, being niece to Mrs. Matthews
she has lately come out from England, and seems
to have received a tolerable education. Rendering
herself very useful in assisting to lay
out the table which was done so quietly without
the least confusion that I could not help complimenting
him on the neat manner in which.
