detached - long wooden shed: under its roof
was arranged in succession every thing required
for a residence in a country house in
this climate

We first came to a carpenters bench
turning lathe and tool chest - then to mould
for making candles - potashery for the manufacture
of soap - wood house with its -
cross-cut saw - Saw horse or (wooden frame)
on which the logs are cut into equal lengths
so as to fit the stoves, the large axe to split to the
proper size for burning - then the stack of firewood,
for the year neatly piled in logs of four
feet each the state in which it is brought from
the forest - a wash house - a place for the cow -
one for the horse - another for the poultry consisting,
of turkies, ducks, hens, and geese, the
latter feed from the grass in the common on
which the village stands - Under the roof
of this shed the animals find a shelter during
the inclemency and snows of the winter and a
refreshing shade from the excessive intense
heat of the summer - No country house
in Canada can well dispense with an out
building of this description

The family had finshed the day
before my visits in making a stock of candles
and were preparing to manufacture a supply
of soap, from the salts of ley for the manufacture
