of petitions to be presented to Legislative Assembly of Ontario asking for the
abolition of certain tax exemptions - and also for the reduction of the number
of Aldermen in cities and inviting the co-operation of the Council to same.
Referred to the Committee on Finance.

From George Dawson Esquire of Geological Survey of Canada - enclosing
preliminary report on a general examination of the Iron ore deposits in the
vecinity [vicinity] of the Kingston and Pembroke Railway. - Referred to the Committee
on Finance

From M. Lavell Esquire, Warden of the Provincial Penitentiary
enclosing account for repairs in filling in Esplanade on Thing Street.
Referred to the Board of Works.

From Thomas D. Minnes proposing to insure City against
liability from accidents. - Referred to the Committee on Finance.

From George Thompson Collector of Taxes stating amount of Taxes
collected to date. - Referred to the Committee on Finance.

From F.C. Ireland City Treasurer stating fees Market No 1 collected to date
$1269.65. Referred to the Finanace Committee.

Petition were presented, read and referred as follows: -

From Albert Piper and 7 others, by Ald: Donnelly from the construction
of a sewer as a Local Improvement on Wades lane. - Referred to the Board of
Works.

From Chester L. Curtis and 13 others by Ald: Tait- for the construction
of a tile sewer as a local Improvement on Stephen Street. - Referred to the
Board of Works and City Commissioner.

The Mayor Submitted A Memorial to be presented to the Ontario
Legislative Assembly asking for the trial of action before a Judge, without a Jury,
which was read.

On motion of Ald: Carson seconded by Ald: Behan.

Ordered, That the Memorial Just read be signed by the Mayor on
behalf of this Council and copies of same be sent to other Muncipalities [strikethrough] and copies
of same be sent [/strikethrough] for their co-operation and then be forwarded to Lieutenant Governor
of Ontario and the Legislative Assembly.

Ald: Behan from the Committee on Finance and accounts brought
up Reports (Number 7.8.9. Book H.) which were read and adopted.

The Chairman from the Board of Works brought up Report (Number 10
Book H.) and submitted Reports and Estimates of the City Engineer, Re Local,
Improvement Works mentioned therein which were read.

On motion of Ald: Carson seconded by Ald: Martin.

Ordered, That the report of the Board of Works be received and adopted.

The Chairman from the Water Works Committee brought up Reprt
(Number 11 Book H.) which was read and adopted.

The Chairman from the Committee on Fire Water and Light brought
up Report (Number 12 Book H.) which was read and adopted.

* On motion of Ald: Behan seconded by ALd: Walkem.

Ordered, That the Mayor, Aldermen Stewart, Ryan, and the
Mover and Seconder be appointed a Committee for the purpose of interviewing the
Grand Trunk Railway Authorities, with a view of securing the location of the Grand
Trunk Workshops on this City, and that the Committee may be permitted to incur
an expenditure not to exceed one hundred dollars in securing all possible information
which may be obtainable for this purpose.
