Ordered, That the report of the Board of Works be received and adopted.

The Chairman from the Water Works Committee brought up Report
(Number 22 Book H.) which was read and adopted.

The Chairman from the Committee on Fire, Water and Light
brought up Report (Number 23 Bok H.) which was read and adopted.

The Chairman from the Committee on Parks brought up Report
(Number 24 Book H. which was read and adopted.

Ald: Drennan from the Committee on Printing brought up Report
(Number 25 Book H.) which was read and adopted.

Ald: Curtis from the Select Committee on Ald: Carsons resolution
Re economy in the departments of the Council, brought up Report (Number 26
Book H.) which was read.

On motion of Ald: Curtis seconded by Ald: Donnelly.

Ordered, That the report be received and adopted.

On motion of Ald: Behan seconded by Ald: Curtis.

Ordered, That the profits arising from the sale of Debentures amounting
to $3135.00 be transferred to the general fund and that the City Treasurer be
instructed to include the same in the Budget.

On motion of Ald: Drennan seconded by Ald: Robinson.

Ordered, That the Mayor be instructed to take such action with
the City Solicitor in regard to inserting clause in the Act to provide for the
amalgamation of the Bay of Quinte Railway + Navagation [Navigation] Company so that
the interest of the City will be protected.

On motion of Ald: Martin seconded by Ald: Skinner.

Ordered, That the Mayor Aldermen Behan and Walkem and the
mover and seconder be a special committee to look carefully after the proposed
bill, Re the Kingston and Smiths Falls Railway bill notice of which appears
in the public press and report if necessary at a special or regular meeting of
this Council such steps as they deem necessary.

On motion of Ald: Stewart seconded by Ald: Donnelly.

Ordered, That this Council desires to strongly protest against the
proposal to bridge the Detroit river. There is probably no point in the world
where such a large volume of trade passes at this point and the river being
only 2,390 feet wide, it only affords most difficult navigation for even
those well acquainted with the district.

A pier bridge placed across the river would seriously injure navigation
and make the passage very dangerous.

Resolved that James H. Metcalfe, M.P. be appointed to co-operate
with deputation of executive of the Canadian Marine, the lake-carriers
association of the United States and other boards of trade of Canada in opposing
the bill, providing for the bridging of the said river when it comes before
the parliamentary Committee at Ottawa.
