Monday 7.30 October P.M.
Kingston October 17th 1881

A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of
Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Allan, Anglin, John Carson, Clements, Gage, Gaskin,
CF Gildersleeve, JP Gildersleeve, Gordon, Irving,
Law, McCammon, McMahon, Robinson, Smythe,
J. Wilson, W. Wilson

The Clerk read the minutes of the last meeting

A communication from Mrs. H. Cartwright was read
on the subject of tree planting in the City.

On motion of Ald. J. P. Gildersleeve seconded by Ald. Anglin

Ordered, That the communication of Mrs. H. Cartwright
be referred to the Committee on Streets to consider whether
any feasible scheme can be devised to facilitate and
encourage the planting of shade trees in the streets of this
City and to report to this Council.

A communication from the Canadian Locomotive and
Engine Company Kingston was read asking for a lease of
slip at the foot of Gore street at a nominal sum and
enclosing plan

A communication from A. Gunn & Co. was read stating
they have no objection to the Engine Company building up a
Fire proof building along side of their line.

On motion of Ald: Gaskin seconded by Ald. McCammon
Ordered, that the communication of Locomotive
Works be referred to the Committe on Streets to report on
Wednesday at Special Meeting to be called for that purpose

A communication from William Melville Drennan
was read asking permission to land Dynamite in the
City for transportation to the mines

On motion of Ald: J.P. Gildersleeve seconded by Ald McCammon
Ordered, that the communication of W. M. Drennan
be referred to the Mayor and Chairman of the Harbor
Committee with power to act.

A communication from James Agnew City Solicitor
was read in Re Harbor Lights

On motion of Ald: Gaskin seconded by Ald. McCammon
Ordered, that the communication of City Solicitor
in reference to lights alongside Harbor be referrred to the
Harbor Committee to report.

Ald. Gaskin brought up the petition of Helen Reynard
praying for a remission of her taxes

On Motion of Ald: Gaskin seconded by Ald. Allen
Ordered, that the petition of Helen Reynard
in reference to Taxes be granted.
