Wind West sun shining
flying clouds and cold. Last night
ground froze for the first time this fall.
Wellie came before any of us were up
but Voltie up twice looking after the cattle
to keep them from breaking in the orchard.
Voltie has been looking after cattle now
every night for six weeks. Have to keep
3 of them shut up in the barn every night.
Voltie and Wellie are plowing.
Grace gathered all the green tomatoes
and a few apples to put them in the cellar.
We are keeping the milk in the can this
morning only going to send to factory now
every other day. Cooked beans for dinner,
after dinner sent Maude to Wills for steelys
to weigh carpet rags. Grace working on my dress
got the skirt done. Wind freshening up. Barger
lying at anchor by Carlton Island. Mr Niles
here in the evening to invite the boys
to help fix the dock house tomorrow.
Grace & Maud wash supper dishes and
I darn Volties mittens.
