Wallace Niles here this evening
after supper Maud (as I suposed [sic: supposed]) went
[struck text: I [illegible]] to the post office but instead
went home with Wallace and played piano
till 10 O'clock P.M. while I sat up and
waited for him to come with the mail
in rain.
Saturday 29th Dree 1894
A beautiful clear day but cold
Maud went for the mail this morning
Wells Sr and Wallace Niles dug the grave
Mr Niles and George went to Ferry
For coal. Mr Niles is going across to K
on Pierpont but he will have to walk
to Garden Island on the ice
for the boat only [struck text: goes] comes as far as the
island. Wind North, Clouding up
again this P.M. Grace making
apple pies and cleaned floors
cheerless weather wind piping up
from S.E. Wellington's little boy burried [sic: buried]
at dusk 6 O,clock P.M. a twilight burial
Geo Ranous' youngest boy died this
morning (Geo Jr) of diptheria. Martin
brought in the table linen and towels
after dark. River frozen over from shore to shore last night
