My dear John,
I have taken your "Homilies" to heart in every sense. I am delighted to possess these charming papers and am savouring them slowly, so as to enjoy their full flavour. literary roles too. There's something about your way of putting your judgments which appeals very specially to me--what the law has lost, literature has gained, many & real thanks to you from us both.
We got home from Canada & the States a week ago and are settling down again as best we may to ordinary life after experiences which quite bore out all you foretold. Such hospitality! I hope we shall soon have a chance of recounting our adventures to you, and comparing notes.
With best of feelings to you both,
Yours ever,
