July 30th 1926.

3, CHURCH ROAD, HIGHGATE, N.6.

Dear Mr. Buchan - I love it - & in the midst of grey wet, & a general miasma of ill-health, worry, & anxiety, you have led me far away to The Isles of Greece & made me believe once more in -

"More it is than ease,

Palace & pomp, honours & luxuries,

To have seen White Presences up in the hills,

To have heard the voices of the Eternal Gods."

Possibly, it is quite worth while being flayed alive if you hear the Young Apollo sing - of course, my heart is still very faithful

to the Gorbals Diehards - Bless them - but, "The Dancing Floor" is a beautiful book. Will you be very kind & just write your name on a bit of paper for a Greek friend of mine, who I know, will really appreciate your understanding of Greece. She herself writes charmingly in Greek, English (very beautiful English) & French. I know you will forgive me troubling you for dear Mrs Buchan's sake. Anna's new book is excellent, & evidently going to be a huge success; as, I always tell her, I can read her books when no one else's would give me the slightest pleasure. Thank you for writing a song of Spring.

Yours sincerely

Katharine Smith
