My dear Buchan

This note is not, please, to be thought of
as calling for any acknowledgement - I should hate to
use a fragment of your precious time - but last night
I read your introduction to the CPRE Survey of The Thames Valley
and feel an irresistible desire to thank you for it.

It is a cameo of classical beauty.
Whenever I think of the Thames, or am near it, your
picture of it (like Jefferies' After London or W. Morris' News from Nowhere or the Mat Arnold stanzas) will
come into my mind, & colour my thinking, and give
me the picture of time - which is really a double thing
- chronological for some purposes, eternally the same for others.

Yours very sincerely
