Thesis for M.A.
J.R. Ross, B.A.

There was laid before the Senatus a Thesis
for the degree of M.A. from Rev. J.R. Ross B.A.
on the following subject: "The true principles of representative
government as distinguished from that of the
sovereignty of the people described and exemplified,
and the sense in which representative government
is the government of the majority briefly defined
and demonstrated." The subject was approved but
the Clerk was instructed to return the Thesis to
Mr Ross that it might be written in a more
legible hand.

and approved.

Prize offered
to Mr. Cassells
best Essay
[/margin]

A letter was read from Robert Cassells
Esq. Toronto authorizing a Prize to be called the
Toronto Prize. It was agreed to award the prize
to the best Essay on the Oratory of the Ancient
Greeks and Romans, and to make it
open to all students in Arts for 1866-7. The Principal
was requested to convey to Mr. Cassells the
thanks of the Senatus for his liberality.
