[margin]Reply of J.C. GThom[/margin]There was read a letter from Dr. J.C. Thom
[margin]anent bursary giv-[/margin]stating that his Classical certificate for the session
[margin]en to him[/margin]1855-6 having been withheld from him without any
assigned reason, he considered himself exempted
from his engagement to repay the bursary he
had received. The Secretary was instructed to send
to Dr. Thom a copy of the obligation required
by him and to inform him that there is nothing
in the minutes to lead the Senatus to suppose
that he ought to be released from his written
promise.

[margin]Certificates of J.B./margin]The College certificates of Rev. James B.
[margin]Muir sustained, new[/margin]Muir applicant for the degree of Bachelor of
[margin]Classical subjects prescribed[/margin]Arts were examined and found satisfactory and
it was agreed to substitute for the classical subjects
before prescribed the following, viz: first
two books of Odes of Horace, first two books of Æneid,
& first five books of Iliad.

[margin]Memorial from stu-[/margin]There was read a memorial from the Arts
[margin]dents anent holidays[/margin]Students requesting that their classes should not
meet on the first three days of next week so that
time may thus be afforded to prepare for the
Christmas examination. The Senatus refused
to comply with the prayer of the Memorial,
but it was understood that the Professors shall
so arrange the work of the respective classes on
the above days as to assist in preparing the
students for the Christmas examination.

[margin]excuses for non-attend-[/margin]Numerous written excuses from the students
[margin]ance at prayers[/margin]for absence from morning prayers were read and
disposed of.
