"I hereby solemnly declare that since the
30th day of January last I have to the best of
my ability performed all my duties as an undergraduate
in Arts attending Queen's College, that
if on any occasion or in any particular I have
failed to give satisfaction in any of my classes,
it has not been with an intention to annoy any
of my teachers nor from any deliberate attempt
to contravene the rules of this Institution, but
solely through ignorance or thoughtlessness; and
that I confidently appeal to my fellow students to
say whether or not I have in their opinion
failed in any respect to do my duty in any
of my classes.
James E Burgess"

"We the undersigned having been appealed
to by our fellow student James E. Burgess hereby
solemnly declare that as far as we know or have
seen he had faithfully performed his duties as
a student in all his classes since the 30th day
of January last, and that it is our belief that
if in any particular his conduct has been a
contravention of College Rules it has not been
the result of intention but of ignorance or
thoughtlessness.
