Mowat, Mackerras, and Ferguson.

The Senate adopted the following minute
and appointed it to be read to the first
year students on Monday:

"As there seems to be a misunderstanding
on the part of first year's students with respect
to the first pass examination, to the effect
that they are not required to appear at that
examination. In order to prevent a recurrence
of this misunderstanding, the Senate appoints
the statement and resolution to be
read to the first year students: By the term
Intrants the authorities of the College mean
students who enter College for the first time
whether on the longer or shorter curriculum
in Arts, or who begin the Theological curriculum
without coming from the Arts classes
in this Institution. The Intrant becomes a
matriculant or undergraduate of the first
year by passing the first matriculation examination.
It lies with the Senate to say
whether or not a student who has not matriculated
shall have so acquitted himself in the
class work of the session and at the first
pass examination, as that he shall at the
close of his first session take rank as an
undergraduate. Announcements in the Calendar
and published regulations require
that Intrants if intending to graduate,
must observe the appointed order of classes
and examinations. In and that
candidates for scholarships at the matriculation
examinations not being Intrants,
must be passmen of the last preceding
