3rd Because the address in question does not represent the views of the Senatus, but simply those of the Trustees.

4th Because as is allowed by all the Professors, were the Principal here, the duty of presenting said address would devolve on said Principal, and to say that in his absence, that duty must fall to one not a Professor, with no Academic degree and who must, therefore appear in non-Academic robes is a lowering of the Institution and its Professors.

5th Because this is an insult to the taste in learning of the Professors, that an Academic Address prepared and unanimously approved of by them, should be changed by the Trustees.

6th Because the address in question beginning "We the Trustees and Professors etc., is not true, in point of fact, there being no regular legal meeting of the Trustee-Board—but simply of a few Trustees living in Kingston.

Queen's College 16th August 1860. Which day the Senatus met and was duly constituted by the Chairman Dr. Williamson. Sederunt Dr. Williamson Chairman Professors Mowat, Lawson and Weir. The minutes of former meeting were read and approved of.

Dr. Williamson stated that he had been authorized by Messrs Bruce, Drummond and Davidson, Trustees to say that they were quite willing to leave all further arrangements in regard to the address to the Prince of Wales with the Senatus on the understanding that the Chairman of the Trustees, should present said address. Professor Weir dissented from the matter's being taken up at all by the Senatus for the following reason. "Because as the Address in question is a joint affair between the Trustees and the Professors the Senatus as such can have nothing to do with it."

In accordance with this arrangement, it was agreed that the Address should be presented by the Chairman of the Trustees and by Dr. Williamson as Chairman of the Senatus, and that the Professors and the Trustees follow in procession, this arrangement having been proposed by the Trustees, themselves.

the Executive Committee of the Trustees to concur in authorizing the words "Graduates and Under-Graduates" to be added after the word "Professors", in the opening paragraph Although a copy of the Address has already been transmitted to Mr Pennefather the Senate believe that no awkwardness can arise from introducing the above mentioned words in the Address to be presented to the Prince. The Senate appreciate the sentiments of loyalty entertained by the Graduates and Under-Graduates, and are of opinion that their expression in the way proposed would be more appropriate than by the presentation of a Separate Address.

The Secretary was requested to transmit a copy of this Minute to the Secretary of the Trustees, and Dr. Williamson undertook to arrange with them any literal alteration that may be necessary in the reading of the Address, and to send a corrected copy to Mr. Pennefather.

The Committee appointed to select patterns of Hoods and Caps gave in the following report, which was unanimously adopted and ordered to be acted upon for Members of the University by the Committee appointed for these purposes, consisting of Professors Williamson and Lawson, who associated with themselves Professor Yates M.D.

I. Arts and Divinity. Professor—Black gown, Scarlet Hood, lined with black. Cap with two tassels. B.A. Black gown, Black Hood, Cap one tassel.
