"Classical works, but in so doing cannot compete for
"rank or scholarships". The Senate agreed also
to make the following change in the same part
of the Calendar, viz.: That paragraph IV read
as V, and that IV be as follows: "Candidates
passing the above examination rank as under
graduates; A Student passing in any subject
may attend the Collegiate class connected with
it and is eligible for a scholarship.

The subject of having an entrance examination
in Modern Languages and of making
the subject optional was considered, and
Prof. Ferguson was requested to prepare a
minute on the subject for the consideration
of the Senate at a future meeting.

D.D. for Rev. Wm Fraser

The Senate having made the necessary inquiries
resolved that at the statutory time and
on the usual conditions they would confer the
degree of D.D. upon the Rev. William Fraser
of Bondhead.

Hugh MacIntosh

On account of the serious illness of Hugh
Mackintosh, and the importance of his returning
to his friends without delay, the Senate agreed
to authorize the payment of the second
half of his scholarship immediately, and also agreed
to count this as a full session to him.

The subject of graduation without attendance
was resumed and its further consideration
postponed.

applies ad eundem

In reference to an application from Alpheus
McTaggart A.B. of Earlham College Indiana,
the Senate agreed to admit him ad eundem
provided that he present satisfactory certificates
of having passed in all the subjects required
for graduation in this University, and
also that he pass an examination in mathematics
and English next spring.
