Since the close of last session, the Rev. Dr. T.G. Smith, the
General Secretary of the University, died after many
years of strenuos, fruitful work in the Church, and
for the University.

Principal Grant reported on the excellent work done
by the General Secretary, and a committee was
appointed to draw up a minute expressive of the
services rendered by Dr. Smith:

"The Board of Trustees desires to place upon its minutes
its sense of the goodly services of the late
Rev. Thomas G. Smith, D.D., who has been removed by death
since the last meeting of the Board.

"Dr Smith was the General Secretary for eleven years,
and performed the duties of that office with singular
diligence and faithfulness. His kindly, yet firm and
earnest spirit, made him welcome wherever he went,
and it is not too much to say, that his official journeys
throughout the length and breadth of the land, were
not only of service financially, but contributed largely
to make the advantages of Queen's University more
generally known. He was in all respects a true and
earnest friend".

At a previous meeting of the Board, a Committee was
appointed to consider the establishment of a new
Chair in Theology, which was felt to be a very desirable
