addition to the equipment of that Faculty.

At a future meeting the Committee presented the following
report:

The Committee, appointed to recommend a name for the new
Chair in Theology, recommend that the name be that of
Church History, and History of Doctrine.

That the Rev. Samuel McComb, M.A. (Oxford) be recommended
for said Chair"

The report was carefully considered, clause by clause, and
after the various clauses were severally adopted, the report
was adopted as a whole.

The salary connected with the Chair was fixed at $2,000.00
per annum, and to take effect the 15th of October next.

Then, on motion duly made and seconded, the
Rev. Samuel McComb, M.A., was appointed to the newly founded
Chair of Church History, and the History of Doctrine in the
Theological Faculty of the University.

For many years the University had been receiving a
generous grant from the Temporalities
Board of the Presbyterian Church, and official announcement was now
made that the grant of $2,000.00 would cease after the
present year. Events which had a bearing on the funds
of the Temporalities Board made this action not
unreasonable, and further, the loss could be made up by
the increase in the amount of student fees.
