Connection with the Church; and the Commission respectfully requests, in view of this unanimity, the Board of Trustees still further to desist from seeking legislation looking to the severance of the relations which have subsisted between the University and the Church.
3 That it does not seem clear how far many of the Presbyteries have had under consideration the present composition and method of appointing the Board of Trustees of the University; but out of the ten that have specially dealt with this matter, seven have signified a desire for a modification of the method of appointing Trustees, which three have voted that the present method is satisfactory. In view of these facts, it would seem as if this question needed further consideration.
4 That a few of the Presbyteries hold that it would be more fitting that the Arts Department of the University should be supported by the general public, since the country at large so greatly benefits by the higher education which it provides, that several Presbyteries feels that the University has, by the work it has done for the promotion of the intellectual development of the Dominion, made good its claim for support from both the Church and the country, and that a large majority of the Presbyteries heartily commend the University to the liberal support of the people within their bounds.
