the different schools. And Queen's had no objection.

After an exhaustive review of the financial situation and needs
of the University, a memorial was prepared and forwarded to the
Ontario Government, requesting a grant of $100,000.00, being an
increase of $27,000.00 over the grants previously given to
the School of Mining and the Medical Faculty. The University
was now doing a goodly share of the higher education of the
Province, and free from all ecclesiastical restriction, and was
fairly entitled to a proportionate share of the moneys set apart
for educational purposes.

The Board had confidence that the memorial would be received
with favor.

Dr. Douglas, a member of the Board, had been recently
elected as Chancellor by the Council, and was congratulated
by his colleagues.

Hamilton Cassels, Esq., K.C., was elected Chairman of
the Board. He acknowledged in brief but graceful terms
the honor done him, and expressed the hope that he
might be able to fulfil the duties of the office with satisfaction
to the Board, and with advantage to Queen's.
