offer the Principalship to Dr. Adams, recently of Oxford University,
at a salary not to exceed $8,000.00, and a residence.
In the event of the salary not being sufficient to secure the
services of Dr Adams, the Committee was given authority
to make a new offer. Should the approach to Dr Adams fail,
the Committee would continue its mission, and if possible
have a name to present at the October meeting.

At that meeting, the Committee had to announce that
it was informed by Mr ER Peacock of Dr Adams' declinature
of the Principalship while, in a few very graceful words
he acknowledged the honor done by so attractive an offer,
he felt that Oxford had the first claim upon him at that itme.

The Committee continued its search, passed in review
quite a number of strong names, and were happy to agree
on the name of Reverend R Bruce Taylor, DD, Minister
of St Paul's Presbyterian Church, Montreal. The Board
unanimously approved the nomination, and directed the
Chairman, Dr Cassels, KC, Dr Macgillivray and Dr
Adam Shortt, to call upon Dr Bruce Taylor at his home,
at the earliest convenient date, inform him of the mind
of the Board, and its anxiety to have a favorable answer
without much delay, as the University classes had already
met, and every interest required that a new Principal
be found, and his name announced to the whole University
body. The salary offered was $8,000.00 with Residence;
and the Residence would be completely overhauledd,
