After reasoning on the Resolution, it was agreed that,
the Trustees, having already stayed proceedings in
connection with the proposed changes in their Charter,
decided, in view of the action of the Conference, to
prosecute these changes no further at present, but to
maintain the existing relation between the University
and the Church touching the support of the University.
The Principal read also a motion which Dr. Warden
proposed to bring before the Conference and which
is embodied in a resolution of Conference hereinafter
mentioned, and it was assented to with some slight
amendments.
At 4.30 p.m. the Board again met in Conference with
the Commission of Assembly. After careful
consideration of the various interests involved, the
following resolutions were adopted by the Conference.
(1) The Commission of the General Assembly recognizes
the remarkable and gratifying growth of the
University since the Union of the Churches in 1875,
the great service it has rendered to the Higher
Education of the Country, the unsectarian character
of its influence, and its increasing fulfilment of the
idea of a Christian University.
