"Dr. Snodgrass' untiring devotion to the interests of the
Institution during this long period has earned for him the
gratitude not only of this Board, but also of the whole Presbyterian
Church in Canada; indeed the services which Dr. Snodgrass
has rendered to this country in the interests of higher education
during a residence of twenty five years are such as entitle
him to the thanks of the entire community and will render his
retirement a ground for public regret."
"The Board cannot forget the trying circumstances
both financial and otherwise in which the Institution was
placed at the time of Dr. Snodgrass' appointment and they
record their conviction, that its subsequent success and present
prosperity are mainly due to the wisdom and energy
with which he met these difficulties and at length sur-
mounted them."
"By his unvarying courtesy as a member of this
Board Dr. Snodgrass has won the confidence and affection
of his brother Trustees, while his wise counsels have been
at all times such as to command their respect. He carries
with him to his new sphere of labour the earnest prayers
of the Board for his usefulness and prosperity, and
their best wishes for the happiness of both himself and his
