Lecturer in Political Economy.

The improvements suggested by the Principal
in the main building had been carried out the third
story fitted up with four commodious class rooms, and the
second floor of the Library completed on the same plan
as the floor below. The session began with a general,
sense of hope and satisfaction. At the autumn meeting
of the Board, Professors Dupuis and Goodwin presented
in a lengthy report the result of their visits to several of the
American Universities with a view to the proposed erection
of a new Science Hall. After much discussion, it was
decided to take no further steps in the matter till the
spring, when after consideraiton of the plans submitted to
the Committee it was decided to proceed with the Building.
The sum of $10,000 originally intended for this
purpose proved to be insufficient for what was required and
it was agreed that a building should be erected, one part of
which should be finished at once and the remainder left for
the present unfinished. It was estimated that the probable
total cost would be about $18,000 (see Q.C.J. p. 161 Vol XV)

Before the commencement of the session Queen's was
honoured by a visit from the lately appointed Governor
General, Lord Stanley accompanied by Lady Stanley.

It being the vacation, the Principal and many
of the Professors and Students were absent,
but large numbers of the Graduates and friends of
