this session than ever before: their numbers were as follows:

On the 16th of September the new Science Hall was
formally opened, and it was soon evicent how crying had
been the need for the new building. By the end of
November there were seventy students doing practical work
in Chemistry, and every place in the junior laboratory was
filled. Many generous subscriptions were received during the
winter towards the equipment of the building, including $1500
from the executors of the late Mrs. Acheson of Smith's Falls
of the fitting up of two laboratories. Special gifts of
apparatus and other articles to the value of $ 2000 were also
received.

During the winter the advisability of
establishing a School of Practical Science was frequently discussed
and at the April meeting of Trustees the question was
brought before the Board. The plan suggested was that
a School of Practical Science should be established for the
development of mining. Agriculture and other industries,
independent of but affiliated with Queen's University.

In spite of many difficulties in the way, the
Board was disposed to view the proprosal with
