a selection. The proposed scheme of the
Church of establishing a Century Fund for the raising
of a million dollars, a proportion of which it was
intended to use in the endowment of Theological
Chairs in the different Colleges, gave a fair
prospect of the new professorship being within reach
of the University.

The work of the General Secretary
having lessened considerably both in amount
and importance it was judged advisable to make
some change in his appointment. The matter had
before been brought before the Board, and it was this
year decided that the services of Dr. Smith as agent
for the University should be continued at his present
salary for one year and at a salary of $1200 afterwards,
besides travelling expenses not exceeding $150 per
annum. The duties of Dr. Smith, whose health
had been failing for some time past, were at the same
time considerably lightened.

In the Biological Department work had
considerably increased. Dr. Knight's report showed
that the number of students taking his classes was far
in advance of previous years. In view of Dr. Knight's
increased work, his salary was raised to $1400 per annum.

The resolution of last year regarding the
change of date for holding Convocation was reconsidered
