at their solicitation. It was then unanimously resolved
that a copy of Walton's Polyglot Bible with Castell's
Lexicon should be presented to Dr. Machar by the Trustees
as a Testimonial expressive of their appreciation of the
value of his services to the College and to the Young Men
composing the Hebrew Classes.
The Medical Faculty having applied for increased
accommodation, the Revd Dr. Williamson and Messrs.
Drummond and Morval were appointed to meet with them
for the purpose of providing such additional accommo-
dations as might be found necessary.
A communication having been received by
the Board on the 9th Septr, informing them of the
sudden death of Professor Smith which took place at
Gairlochead in Scotland on 8th August, on the eve
of his return to Kingston. A general Meeting of the
Trustees was called for the purpose of taking steps
to fill the vacant Chair.
After examination on the various subjects
prescribed, the following gentlemen at the close
of the Session 1855-56 were admitted by the
Senatus Academicus of the University to the
