The attendance at Queen's during this year
shewed an increase in Arts and a decrease in
Medicine, the latter owing to the stricter registration
in force since the Royal became a Faculty of the
University. There was also a slight decrease in
Theology. The number of students was follows

Arts - 282
Theology - 26
Medicine - 124
[total] 432

Comparatively few degrees in Arts were
this year conferred, owing to a cause which reflected
honour on the students. Four years before the
Senate had instituted a number of Honour Courses
leading to the degree of MA. It was extremely difficult
to pass in any of these in the usual period
of four years but nearly half of the class that entered
the University in 1888 took advantage of the
developments of study proposed and consequently
did not attempt to graduate till the following year.

The first event of the session was the
opening of the new Medical Faculty on October
14th, the arrangments authorized at the Trustee
Meeting in April havinag been completed.
