a conference of the Alumni of Queen's was held in the
month of February. Though the subjects discussed
were namely theological, others were taken up. Lectures
were given by Dr Dyde on the development of Greek
thought through the poets and Sophists, and by Professors
Cappon and Shortt on literary, social and economic
questions, while the special feature of the Conference was
a course of lectures on Dante by Dr Watson, the Sandford
Fleming Lecturer for that and the three following
years. This course of lectures was due to the kindness
of the Chancellor, who offered the sum of $250 a year
to pay for the services of a special lecturer. It was
agreed that the Conference should be continued in the
following February, though they were orginally intended
to be ony biennial or triennial.

A fresh departure was made
this year in the publication of a magazine in connection
with the University. A meeting was called
in the Spring, of those interested in the scheme, and it
was decided to issue a quarterly magazine to be called
the Queen's Quarterly, to represent the thought and life
of the University, and help the friends and graduates of
Queen's everywhere, to keep in touch with the Professors.

The first number of the magazine was issued on the 1st
of July, the Editors and contributors being mainly
drawn from the College Staff. The publication of
