but in addition to the valuable contributions to the School
of Practical Science and Mining School already mentioned
the authorities were the recepients through the kindness of Mr.
JH Bell of Toronto and Dr Robert Bell of Peterborough
of a large collection of books and pamphletts from the library
of the late Mr. Robert Bell of Carleton Place their
father. The gift was accompanied with the request that
the books and pamphlets, many of which were old and
rare should be kept together and be known as "The
Robert Bell Collection". With this request the Senate
gladly complied. The Library was steadily increasing
and this year a grant of $350 was made to prepare
a complete catalogue on a new plan known as the
Gard plan suggested by the Librarian. Many
donations of books were received from time to time, throughout
the winter. As in the preceeding spring, His
Excellency Lord Aberdeen was present at the closing ceremonies
of the College and addressed the graduates.
Lord Aberdeen was at this time the guest of Mr Henry
Folger. Four honorary degrees were conferred.

Two of the recipients, Hon SJ Way, Acting
Governor and Chief Justice of South Australia, and
Mr George MCall Theall, of Cape Town, S Africa
were unabale to be present. The other two honorary
graduates were Mr CC Hoffman of the
Geological Survey Ottawa and Mr RV Rogers, QC
