31st March
Benjamin Cribb
Requesting that a sum of money be
placed on the School of Arts Ipswich

Ipswich, Queensland,
March 31st 1860

Sir,

In accordance with a resolution of the Ipswich Meechanic's School of
Arts, I beg to call your attention to the estimate of the probable
expenditure of the Government of New South Wales for 1860,
ordered to be printed 28th of September 1859 (Rego 43) whereby
you will perceive that the government of the day had placed (£600)
six hundred pounds on the estimates for the purpose of erecting
a Hall for the School of Arts at Ipswich and (£100) one
hundred pounds to assist in the purchase of books.

As there was no doubt that the above amounts would
both have been voted, had we continued a portion of New South
Wales; the Committee commenced raising subscriptions to supplement
them, but when separation took place it was considered desirable
not to continue raising subscriptions until we had assurance that the
amounts would be placed on the Estikmates for Queensland.

I now therefore respectfully request that you will
cause these two items to be placed on the Queensland Estimate
for 1860.

Waiting your reply

I have the honor to be
Sir
Your obedient Servant

Benjamin Cribbs
Resident of the Ipswich
Mechanics School of Arts

To the Honorable
the Colonial Secretary
Queensland
