His Grace
The Duke of Newcastle
&c. &c. &c.

has been placed under the able
direction of Mr. Walter Hill from
the Royal Botanical Gardens at
Kew. This establishment is liberally
supported by votes of the Colonial
Parliament, which has also made
provision for the collection of
plants, and for the formation
of a Botanical library.

4. It is with great satisfaction
that I am enabled to report that
the first Parliament of Queensland
has proved itself not less careful
of the moral and social
than of the material want of
the Community ; — and that, in
its first session, it voted ample
sums for the foundation and
encouragement of Botanical Gardens,
Public Parks, Libraries, and
Schools of Art.

this Colony, expressing the concurrence,
with certain limitations of the
Goverment of Queensland in a project

for an extended nautical survey
of the Australian Coasts, submitted
to Governor-General Sir W. Denison
by Captain Washington, Hydrographer
to the Admiralty.

2. I entirely agree with the
views of my Government on this subject.

correspondence respecting postal
communication between Australia
and the United Kingdom, I have
the honor to transmit herewith
a copy of a Minute of the Executive
Council of this Colony, expressing
the general concurrence of the
Government of Queensland in the
four propositions of the Government
of New South Wales, of which a
summary is given in the enclosure.

2. I agree with the views
entertained on this subject by
my Responsible Advisers in the
Executive Council.
