Summary: In the claim for Widow's pension Rachel Bruton is the widow of Stout Bruton, a Private in Company G 12th Regiment USCT Heavy Artillery. She is a resident of Madison County, Kentucky. The muster roll of Company G for the months of September and October 1865 reports. "Present - has served with company since it's organization." On muster roll dated 24 April 1866 he is reported to have died at the Post Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky on 10 December 1865. The order was not received for him to be mustered into service until after his death. However, he did serve with his company from its original organization. The Surgeon General reports that he died on 10 December 1865 at the Paducah, Kentucky hospital of Small Pox. The Assistant Adjutant General reports that Company G 12 Regiment USCHA was organized on 23 August 1864. Proof of their twelve year marriage and cohabitation is provided. No children survive the soldier. Document was admitted on 20 December 1866 for a pension of $8 per month commencing 11 December 1865.
