unless the fish run strongly between
the 23rd & 31st of the month - I do not
think it advisable to ask for a
permit from Ottawa, and I intend
writing [Kennifick?] today to leave
Pigeon Island for work at Wiarton
as suggested in your letter -- If
you think it necessary to remain
with your men where you are, and
get them going well and good, and
perhaps it would be best to do so
and then go on to Wiarton as soon
as you could - If we don’t get spec
trout eggs somewhere, we shall be
in a bad fix. [Kennifick?] should
be able to run the affairs at Wiarton
for the beginning of the season, as
it is doubtful if much else can be done
there before say 10 Nov; and by that
time you could know definitely about
your spec trout eggs, and then join
[Kennifick?]. I feel quite sure that
you would work with greater difficulty
in catching trout and getting their Eggs
than you at [fish?] [seasonal?] [apon?]

Mr. Jon. [Kennifick?]

Your letter rec’d
of the 22th and I am sorry
to hear that you have not got
any Eggs yet - it may be
known that during the
circumstances of October, a
large sum of fish may come
on the shoals and you will
get a lot of Eggs - You must
not rely on doing any work
at Pigeon Island after the 31st
as no permits will be [noted?]
for -- Your presence with others
also will be required at
Wiarton as the frequency of
[Nov?] Charly writes
[?] that the Spec Trout
are not spawning yet and
that he will have to remain
where he is [?] the fish come on
the shoals, so that he can show
his men what to do -- where
he will go off and join you
at Wiarton -- It is therefore
necessary that you should
quit Pigeon Island on time
to check this first ripe fish at
Wiarton about the beginning
of November -- Charly may not
be able to get there for [Gomelette?]
him after -- Gauthier writes
[?] that he will have his nets
all [?] [?] [?]
