My Dear [?]

I am wanting
say 100,000 more or less
Spec Trout Eggs, can you
supply us [?] me
[?] as
quickly as possible as
time is now short for
Shipment – I see you
are still going ahead
Fish breeder – [Edeton?]
[McCleonaine?] [?]

Better luck on
your side of the water
than with me here
I [?] am doing a big
business with little
for it (personally) –
What do you think of
the Pacific Trout for
our now [forelty?] warm
streams – Will they stand
the temperature of our
Mill ponds better than
our own trout –

Best regards
yours truly,
Sam Wilmot

on the subject –
Let me know quickly

William Knight

These letters are interesting as Wilmot reported a shortage of speckled trout eggs for 1886 in his 1887 annual report. It will be interesting to see if this letterbook provides any evidence of imports of speckled trout from American sources and if so, where they were planted. That information may be of potential interest to contemporary fisheries biologists.
