Jan. Wednes. 14.th.
Study hours over and I have not
written in my journal. The hours seem much shorter
here than at home. This day ends very pleasantly, I have
found a good deal of wrong in me, to subdue through the
day. General questions first thing in school, I had no
idea of what itwas, so entirely unprepared for it. Think
it an excellent exercise, learns us to think and write
quickly. Next came scripture reading, felt a deep
interest in it. How important it is that we should
in imagination place ourselves in the situation of
those we are reading about, and express their feelings
in appropriate tones.
Our first lesson in Grammar,
taught in altogether a different manner from
what I ever heard it before. Very clear and interesting
First lesson in mental Arithmetics. I wish I
could think faster, for my own sake, and my
teacher. The fear of men must be entirely
overcome here, if we would not be perfectly miser-
able. Best satisfied if we do just as wall as we
can, whether we receive the approbation of those
around us or not. But I do desire the approbation
of my teachers very much.
