Jan Thurs. 15th

This has been for the happiest day
I have spent in normalty. One unhappy thing occurred
I made a sign to ^my seat mate, to hand me a piece of india
rubber. Received a very gentle rebuke from Mr Peirce
Shall not be guilty of a like offence again.

Did not succed very smoothly in reciting my
lesson in Physiology, do not think I ever shall, [mybope.]

Begin to be more interested in Phonography. A short
lecture in Geo. [Geography] from the principal, on the manner of
teaching it to children. Begin by teaching them
the natural features of the town they live in, give them
an idea of distances and shapes, the difference between
the size of an object seen near, and at a distance.
Tell them that we can draw a fine picture of anything
if it is not as large as life, then show them a map
and tell them that the representations their drawn of the
form of the countires is correct if they are not as large
as the countries really are. I have let slip some things that
were said. Capital lesson in Algebra this afternoon

How much we shall be indebted to Miss Tilden for our mathematical knowledge.

Singing went off more harmoniously today then Monday.
Mr Bird has the right idea of things.

Received a letter from home, dear home, today, it
gladdened my heart. It is well to be separated from those
we love sometimes. No separation in Heaven. Happy place.
