Saterday December 4th

Set off with Julie & Margaret & Mum & Dad to go to Southampton. Started to rain. When we got to S.H. we went to the Royal Hotel & got the last five rooms all singles. Went out in the rain for a look around the shops & went back to the hotel. Made friends with some Australians.

Sunday 5th

Didn't sleep very well. Up early to the docks. First one on I think. Taken to cabin. Shown how to use the life jacket. Ma & Da & Julie & Mags all got on board. They went

at about 1.00 & at 1.30 I went for lunch. After I went back to cabin Georgina Shefforf & Mrs had arrived up on deck to wave good-bye. back to cabin. Show them round the boat. [try to] Boat drill. Try to unpack but felt a bit funny. Didn't eat much dinner. Almost sick. Went to bed. We all felt a bit queer. Other lady ^had arrived a Scot. not very nice.

Monday

The next morning I felt sick. Mrs Shefford & the lady went to [dinner] break fast. Gina got up but came back. I stayed in bed. The steward brought us breakfast & Gina got up. I stayed in bed. ^was sick. Had

lunch in bed. Got up a bit felt sick. Was sick went up on deck a while was sick again. Went back to bed dinner got up and went to the pictures.

Tuesday - Got up at 4.30 in the morning cause the Scotch lady snores. Wrote to Ma. Went back to cabin. Went to interest film about Oriana and sounds and shapes and a Mickey Mouse cartoon. Went to a bit of the dice race meeting. Arrived at Gibralta. The British confidence came in (is it Jim's ship?). It has poured with rain today but we have been out quite a bit. I took a couple of pictures of Africa & Gib Not allowed to land cause not

enough time. Late. Only about 50 passengers turned up for breakfast yesterday. We had little boats along side us selling things. It was quite comical to watch. We went and watched the dansing.

Wednesday

Went to deck quoits compatit. played deck quoits with Anna & Gina. Made friends with Barbara. played quoits again. Went down to the baggage room but I didn't get anything out. Felt hungry for the first time. Made friends with Barbara at tea, she came & played deck quoits with us until it was too dark. Then we played scrabble & cards. We went

to the pictures to see Darling. It kept breaking down & Anna walked out 'cause she was fed up but we thought it was funny. Babs came too. I went & complained about a lady in our cabin who snores all night long & they said they would see what they could do. I got a card saying to go up there & they gave me the key to D311 but it was Italians & not very nice.

Thursday Docked before breakfast. Went up on deck to have a look at Naples after breakfast. Looked pretty. We decided to go ashore & collected our passes& went & had them
