pea-soup and hauled it along the deck singing and cheering -
meaning insult to the Captain

single girls. Jack Anderson, who was washing side of
vessel, slipped into the water, and was rescued by his
comrades half-a-mile out to sea by means of a small
boat. A negro entertainment in the evening.

I think there should be another page of writing after this - it ends mid sentence. May be mistake in the scanning or just lost?

It seems odd that the diary has the last entry as Jan 1st 1877, as the ship arrived in Port Adelaide on the 11th January.
Are there additional pages that have not been scanned?

Dec 15th. The squiggly line is a ditto for the line above, so it should be read as "Fight between Street and Burke"
