NEWS ABOUTH THE FOLKS WHO KEEP THE TRAINS ROLLING

GENERAL OFFICE

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pipkin have an-
nounced the birth of a daughter, Sarah
Melinda, born on October 23 at Presby-
terian Hospital, Charlotte. Mr. Pipkin
is employed in the traffic department.

Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Kiser have recent-
ly moved into their new home at 2429
Morton Street, Charlotte.

C. N. Sherrill took a trip to Savannah,
Ga. during the week-end of November 8
to visit his son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Sherrill Jr. and their
two children, Dorothy and George.

General Freight Agent J. H. Wright
took a week's vacation during the last
week of October.

W. G. Jackson, retired traveling au-
ditor, died on November 5 at Mercy Hos-
pital, Charlotte, after a brief illness.

S. C. DIVISION

Kirk Sullivan, son of Conductor and
Mrs. D. J. Sullivan, was recently pro-
moted to Technical Assistant in the Pro-
duction Department of West Vaco Food,
Machinery and Chemical Company, South
Charles, W. Va. Kirk graduated from
Clemson in June, 1957, and went to work
for the company on June 8, 1957. He
was transferred to Montreal, Canada, at
the time of his promotion.

Charles McLawhorn, son of Dispatcher
and Mrs. W. R. McLawhorn, was recent-
ly promoted to Commandant and Major
at the Massanut Military Academy,
Woodstock, Va. Major McLawhorn has
been teaching at the Academy for sev-
eral years.

Emory Gross, retired, was recently
confined to the Greenville General Hos-
pital.

Jerry Page, son of Agent and Mrs. W.
N. Page, has recovered from a bout with
the flu.

Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Wilson and family
attended the Georgia-Alabama football
game at Athens, Georgia.

N. C. DIVISION

Mr. and Mrs. George Terrell spent the
last week of their vacation during Octo-
ber at Myrtle Beach, S. C. and also at
Charleston, S. C. Mr. Terrell is car clerk
at Gastonia.

J. L. Lail, cashier, Gastonia agency,
took the last week of his vacation in
October and spent most of the time at
home.

Miss Lennie Featherstone, Gastonia
bill clerk, has entered the Presbyterian
Hospital, Charlotte, again, this time for
a major operation, and it is undeter-
mined when she will be able to be back
to work. While she is away, Mrs. Billie
Carpenter, former P & N clerk, will
relieve her.

Mrs. Jean Wallace, Gastonia steno-
grapher, was confined to her home dur-
ing October with the flu.

H. S. Cobb, car foreman at Gastonia,
enjoyed part of his vacation during Oc-
tober at the beach on a fishing trip.

Agent R. R. Vaughan of Charlotte is
recuperating at his home on Dilworth
Road after a recent operation. Mr.
Vaughan had an emergency appendec-
tomy at Memorial Hospital on October
20.

Mrs. R. J. Barnes, wife of Assistant
Rate Clerk Barnes of the Charlotte
agency, underwent a minor operation at
the Presbyterian Hospital on November
8, and is now recovering nicely.

Mr. and Mrs. J. E. McKnight spent a
November week-end touring the North
Carolina mountains and enjoying the
Autumn colors. Mr. McKnight is cashier
at Charlotte.
