Members of the 1959 Graduatio Class of Taylors High School will receive their diplomas or certificates tonight at 8 o'clock in the auditorium. Receiving diplomas will be: Jerry Paul Adams, Edward Eugene Baker, Jr., Carl Eugene Barnette, Franklin Delano Bennett, Gaines Boling, Martha Frances Boling, Billy Ray Bost, Mary Alice Broadnax, Earnest Edward Brown, Geraldine Elaine Burgess, Shirley Beatrice Church, Margaret Inez Clark, Mack Davis Cochran, Jr., Dan Lee Collier, Gail Louise Charping, Patricia Ann Crain, Linda Gail Cunningham, Otis Brent DeShields, Glenda Sue Glenn, Edward Hammett, Barbara Hammond, Leaonard W. Howell, Raymond Howell, Stephen Douglas Howell, Dean W. Hudson, Sandra Sue Johnson, Mary Ellena Jones, Paul Eugene, Kimbrell, Dorothy Kay Moize, Dorothy Jean McCrary, Joyce Ann McConnell, Norman Allen Odom, Linda Jean Painter, Helen Laverne Rader, Alta Ruth Rampey, Larry W. Taylors High Presents Athletic Awards
Taylors High honored its athletes recently at the annual sports banquet at the Southerner Restaurant. Receiving most valuable players awards were left to right, Larry Ross, in track and basketball; Betty Boling, girls basketball; Jerry Johnson, baseball; and Johnny Carlisle, football.

1959-60 Student Council Officers Installed at Chapel Program
Installation of Student Council and Class officers for the 1959-60 school term at Taylors High School was held in an assembly program recently.

Student Council officers installed were Jimmy Turner, president; Royce Steele, vice-president; Billy Turner, secretary; Danny Bull, treasurer; and Harriette Williams, reporter.

Outgoing president, Betty Boling, spoke on the following purposes of the Student Council; to promote the general welfare of the school; to help develop a finer and more effective school spirit; and to provide opportunity for student co-operation in management of school affairs, thus making the school more representative of true American democracy.

She discussed qualities of leadership, which included vision in order to see clearly some of the school's real needs; judgement in order to think clearly and choose wisely; co-operation in the family, school, community, and world; and service in order to have happiness.

After Student Council officers had accepted candles as symbols of leadership, B. T. Gault, principal, spoke to the group.

Class officers for the coming year repeated pledges and lit candles as symbols of service.

Class officers for the coming school year are:

Senior Class: President, Dale Leake; Vice President, Stuart Gilmer; Secretary, Becky Roper; and Treasurer Johnny Carlisle.

Junior Class: President, Alexander Patrick; Vice President, Delane Misenheimer; Secretary, Sharon Davis; and Treasurer, Rose Hudgens.

Sophomore Class: President, Gary Downey; Vice President, Danny Cunningham; Secretary, T. J. Ingle; and Treasurer, Jean Fondy.

Freshman Class: President, Jimmy Moore; Vice President, Janet Blackwell; Secretary, Bonnie Reynolds; and Treasurer, Jane Moon.

Eighth Grade: President, Judy Edwards; Vice President, Carol Schultz; Secretary, Phyllis Poole; and Treasurer, Randall Keenan.

Annual Day
Observed May 21
At Taylors High

Thursday, May 21, was observed as annual day at Taylors. The last two periods were given for an assembly program presented by the Annual Staff and a "get-together" on the school grounds for the signing of the annuals.

Jenny Moon, editor of the annual, displayed the 1959 "Les Memoirs" and recognized the staff Tennessee Ernie Ford was announced as the judge of the beauty section. The beauties were recognized and presented their pictures. Barbara Hammond was selected as "Miss Les Memoirs".

Mr. Gault, Miss Greer, the coaches, and Mr. Hudgins were presented their annuals in appreciation for their contributions to the annual.

Following the singing of the "Alma Mater" the students returned to their homerooms to receive their annuals.

Taylors High Leaders
Recently elected officers of the Taylors High School student body include (front, left to right) Harriett Williams, reporter, an eighth grader and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Williams; Royce Steel, vice president, an 11th grader and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. Y. Steele, and (back, left to right) Billy Turner, secretary, a 10th grader and the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Turner3, and Danny Bull, treasurer, ninth grader and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan H. Bull. President Jimmy Turner was not present when the picture was made. He is a 12th grader.

Diplomas to be Presented '59 Seniors Tonight
The Taylors High School Commencement Program began at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 31, with Dr. R. C. Grier delivering the baccalaureate address in the high school auditorium.

Dr. Grier is pastor of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Greenville. He is President Emeritus of Erskine College, having served as President of the school for 33 years.

Dr. John A. Barry, President of Coker College, Hartsville, South Carolina, will give an address at graduation at 8 p.m. on Monday, June 1, in the auditorium of the high school.

Student speakers for graduation will be Betty Lou Wade, Valedictorian and Linda Painter, Salutatorian.

Recipients of diplomas and certificates in the 1959 graduating class are named beneath the photo at left.

The theme for graduation is "Life is Worth Living."

The speakers will use the topics; "If We Have Knowledge and Love" and "If We Have Faith and Vision".

Cheerleaders for 1959-60 Elected
Following a movie on South Carolina sponsored by the F.T.A., tryouts for cheerleaders were held in the auditorium.

Two cheerleaders are selected from grades six through eleven. The cheerleaders selected from grades six through nine will serve as Junior Varsity cheerleaders. The senior high cheerleaders will cheer for the varsity teams.

The following have been elected: Jane Patrick, Maureen Dorton, Judy Edwards, Georgie Lee Alewine, Carmen Bishop, and Ann Tollison as Junior Varsity cheerleaders.

Dianne Hudgens, Janelle Cunningham, Mary Jo Breazeale, Jinky Thomason, Shelia Keenan, and Ethelene Alewine were selected as Varsity cheerleaders.

The cheerleaders will select the head cheerleaders from among themselves.

Bermuda Hop Held Following Contest
Climaxing a "beauty king" contest at Taylors High recently was a "Bermuda Hop" held in the school gymnasium. Entertainment included cake walks and dance contests.

Larry Byers of the seventh grade was crowned "beauty king" and was presented a cake for a prize.

Receiving cakes in the dance contests were Steve Bishop and Pat Coughlin, best slow dancers; and Jimmy Turner and Harriett Hodges, best fast dancers.

Mothers of members of the Key Club, which sponsored the affair, provided the cakes awarded as prizes. Chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Bramlett and Mr. B. T. Gault. Mr. Bramlett sponsors the Key Club, and Mr. Gault is faculty advisor.
