Royce Steele Named Miss Merry Christmas
Taylors Seniors Leave Dec. 28 On Train For Washington, D.C.
On Monday afternoon December 28 at 5 p.m., 59 seniors will board the southerner train from Greenville bound for Washington, D.C. The group will arrive in Washinton at 6 a.m Tuesday.

Reservations have been made for the group to stay at the Houston Hotel Tuesday through Friday. After all rooms have been assigned, bags unpacked, and everyone refreshed, the seniors will be ready to start on a four day tour of Washington.
On Tuesday the group will visit Annapolis, Maryland and the Naval Academy. They will also have their picture made as a group.
Wednesday they will tour the Capitol and Senate Building. In the afternoon the seniors will take a

scenic ride through Washington on touring buses viewing the Washington and Lincoln Memorials. Then they will proceed to Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Maryland where they will see the famous tomb of the unknown soldier and the changing of guards. That same day the group will tour the FBI. Building, the Treasury, and Mount Vernon.
On Thursday and Friday the seniors will visit Lee's Mansion, Washington Monument, Art Gallery, Smithsonian Institute, Library of Congress, and the White House.
Some of the nights will be free for the group to visit such places as Glen Echo park, if weather permits, The Cinnerama, and see the town at night.
The group with leave Washington Friday, January 1, at 8 p.m. and will arrive in Greenville at 6 a.m. Saturday.
The chaperones for the trip will be Mrs. Marian Greenwood. Mrs. Ida Crawford, Mr. Dennis Gowan, and Mr. Upchurch from the Southern Railway Company.
All of the seniors are looking forward to this trip. This will be one Christmas holiday that will be long remembered.
Pyron Named '59 King Teen

Darden Pyron was elected "King Teen" of Taylors High School by a committee of senior officers and school personnel. Darden is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hermon Pryon of Taylors. Seven senior boys were nominated and approved by the faculty on the basis of scholarship, high school achievements, dependability and character.
Darden attends the First Baptist Church of Taylors, where he is active in all phases of church work.
During his four years of high school, Darden has served three years as an officer on the Student Council, was selected "Most Intelligentual" of the snior class, and is at present a member of the Beta Club, Eagle Staff, and the Bi-Phy-Chem. He is also a member of the Western South Carolina Gem and Mineral Society, and for the past six years, he has been a news carrier for the Greenville News. After graduation Darden plans to attend college, but as yet, has not decided which college it will be.
All the King Teens in the State of South Carolina will be invited to attend a special weekend at Wofford College in the spring. At this time Darden will compete for a scholarship to be given by the college.

Janet Blackwell Wins Scholarship
Janet Blackwell was awarded an honorary music scholarship to St. Louis Institute of Music in St. Louis, Missouri. She was awarded this scholarship through the recommendation of her piano teacher, Mrs. Harlene Bowie. Along with this honor, Janet was made a member of Pi Mu, a national honorary music sorority.
After graduation, Janet will attend five different summer sessions at the Institute, with eachg session being six weeks long When she completes her first session she will have earned six college college credits which may be applied to any subject.
Last year, Janet participated in the State Music Festival at Winthrop College, where she received a rating of excellent for two piano solos. Janet has been studying piano for six years. She plays for the choir at Stephenson Memorial Methodist Church and she is accompaniost for the high school ensemble.
Sims Is Winner
In assembly December 3, B. T. Gault, principal, presented to Charles Simms a Certificate of Merit. He was awarded the certificate for participation in the Voice of Democracy Contest.
The Voice of Democracy is a nation wide contest for high school students. Contestants write and orally deliver brief broadcast scripts on the theme, "I speak for Democracy."

8th Grades, Chorus, Ensemble Give Music, Program Dec. 17
Yesterday the Student Council, the eighth grades, the chorus and the Girl's Ensemble gave a Christmas program for the Senior High chapel program.
A group of students gave the devotional, "A Gift of Love". Following the devotional Jimmy Turner, President of the Student Council presented the maids and janitor with baskets of goods given by the students.
Under the direction of Miss Clara Wilbanks the eighth grades presented the first part of the musical program. The entire eighth grade chorus sang several numbers, "What Strangers Are These", "Watching O'er His Manger".

"Don't Wait Til the Night Before Christmas", and "Silver Bells." Doing solo numbers were Carol Hendrix singing "Keep Christ in Christmas", Al Knight, "May Santa Fill Our Hearts This Christmas", and Virginia Carroll, "Little Christ Child Sweet".
Next on the program was music presented by the chorus. They sang, "As Lately We Watched", "While By Our Sleeping Flocks", "A Round For Christmas", "Christmas Roundelay", and "No Place Like Home".
The final portion of the program was presented by the Girl's Ensemble, Their selections were, "No Candle", "O Holy Night", "To Bethlehem", "Let's Give A Christmas Present To Santa Claus", and "Sing Gloria". Becky Roper sang a solo "The Birthday of A King".
