BUENOS AIRES,
"These stones come from the quarries that the Portland Cement Company of Argentina exploits in the quarries of the mountain ranges which are found to the south of the province of Buenos Aires and at approximately 600 kilometers from this city.
The afore-mentioned stones are used not only for working in cement but also in granite blocks for the facades of buildings. In other similar types they are used for the paving of streets.
These mountain ranges called Sierras Bayas are not very high and form a part of a small mountainous system which is found in the afore-mentioned districts, taking various names, such as Sierra de la Ventana, Christiano Muerto, and others. They are located near the penitentiary of Sierra Chica, the convicts of which devote themselves especially to this work."
