Dear Rotarian President,

I beg to acknowledge your letter of the 17th
July asking us tolet you have a suitable piece of stone for the
rock lodge you are building for boys near Greenville.

I regret the delay in replying to you owing to
the fact that your letter was addressed to my predecessor by name and hence it followed him to England before reaching me.

I send separately, in answer to your request, a piece of the actual Sand Stone from the wall of the Moghul Fort &
Palace of Shahjahanabad, the sixth city of Delhi. Portiins of the
fabric weakened, owing to the bombardment in the mutiny in '57, have been restored and this enabled me to obtain a stone
of actual rather than associated interest.

This material, which is quarried near Agra, was a favourite building material of the Moghuls and the majority of
the public buildings were constructed of it.

With the best of wishes for your new venture.

Rotarily yours
