Hawaii.

We have several interesting shells and pieces of lava from the
the islands of Hawaii. The shells were sent to us by Mr. Luther B. Cox,
who was at one time a leader at Camp Greenville and taught at the
Greenville High School. Mr. Cox is now teaching in Hawaii.

The other specimens [letters transposed] were secured by friends of Dr. J. Warren White,
chief surgeon of the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children., Green-
ville. Dr. White was at one time the chief surgeon of the Shriners'
Hospital in Honolulu and spent two years in the Islands. He kindly gave
us the beautiful crane in our fire-place.

The lei from Hawaii was kindly given to us by Mrs. John Geer,
of Greenville. The lei is hung round the neck of visitors to
welcome them to the Islands and also as a farewell token. The lei is
also used by the Hawaiians as an artcile [mispelled] of dress on all gala occasions.
