German Iron Cross.

The war decorations in our walls is completed by a German Iron
Cross which was secred by Lieut. James C. Dozier, of the 118th
Infantry, from a German prisoner. In the picture below you may notice
that President von Hindenburg is wearing the iron cross.

Lieut. Dozier is now Adjutant General of South Carolina. He probably
received as many decorations as any man in our forces. Perhaps Sergeant
remarkable citations is given below.

''DOZIER, JAMES C ......... First Lieutenant/Co G, Company, 118th
Infantry. For conspsicuous gallantry and inrepedity above
and beyond the call of duty in action with the enemy near
Montbrehain, France, October 8. 1918. In command of two
platoons Lieut. Dozier was painfully wounded in the shoulder
early in the attack, but he continued to lead his men, displaying
the highest bravery and skill. When his command was held up by
heavy machine-gun fire, he disposed his men in the best cover
available, and with a soldier continued forward to attack a machine
gun nest. Creeping up to the position in the face of intense fire,
he killed the entire crew with hand grenades and his pistol and a
little later captured a number of Germans, who had taken refuge in
a dugout nearby.''

The Congressional Medal of Honor was presented by General John J.
Pershing, at a review of the 30th Division in France

The Field-Marshal, Commander-in-Chief, under authority granted by
his majesty, the King, awarded the British Military Cross. This
was presented in Belgium by General Sir David Henderson of the
British Expeditionary forces.

The French Legion of Honor presented by the French Governmen.

The Italian War Cross, presented in the name of the Italian
Government by the Commanding Officer at Camp Jackson, S. C.

The Portuguese Medal presented by the Government of Portugal.

The Montenegran Medal of Valor.

Made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor for which a citation was
received.
