Know all men by these presents , that we John P West John Sumner & John S Barnes are held and firmly bound to Thomas Strang & John G Ulrick in the penal sum of 6222 48/100 dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, one and each of our heirs, Executors and Administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals - dated 2nd 17th day of Janey A.D.1855 Whereas, an execution in favor of the said Thomas Strang & John G Ulrick issued by the Circuit Court of said County, on the 2nd day of October 1854, upon a judgment rendered by said Court against the said John P. West on the 15th of September 1854, for the sum of $3111 24/100 dollars, besides costs of suit, was on the 17th day of January 1855, by H.W.Nelson Sheriff of said Shelby County, levied upon the following property , to wit: one negro woman Easter one year old also one promisory note on F B. Allen for sixteen hundred dollars due the first day of May 1855 also two notes on G B & J G Dowes one for eight Hundred dollars due May 11th 1854 the other for four Hundred & seven 06/100 dollars also the notes & accounts due the late firm of J & H Sumons for the years 1850 - 51 - 52 - 53 & 54
Now the condition of this obligation is such that if the above bound John P West shall deliver the property levied on, to the said Sheriff, at Montevallo by 12 o'clock, noon of the 2nd Monday of febry next then this obligation shall be void, or otherwise to continue in full force. STATE OF ALABAMA Shelby COUNTY TO ANY SHERIFF OF THE STATE: You are hereby commanded that of the goods and chattels, tenements of Needham Lee and John P West you cause to be made the sum of Three thousand one hundred & Eleven 24/100 dollars which Thomas Strang & John G Ulrick recovered of therein on the 15th day of September 1854, by the judgment of our Circuit Court held for the County of Shelby besides seven 90/100 dollars costs of suit, and have the same to render to the said Strang & Ulrick and make return of this writ and the execution thereof according to law.
