New Orleans Sept. 20/58-

My dear Sir,

I am anxious to know of your progress. Have you made out the [?] of the lands to be obtained from the Coal Company? And has that matter been closed?

Have you made out the [?] of all the other small tracts-& have they been conveyed?

Especially, have you heard what progress those gentlemen are making in getting hold of those lands around [Garland?] Springs, as I have begun to look upon those lands as more & more important to our purposes. I hope therefore they will not fail to secure these for us.

Will you also ascertain who are the proprietors of the quarry along the line of the S.R.R. & know whether we can have [strikethrough] them conveyed to us. This is very important, & should be done as soon as possible. Dr. Estill you will remember in his letter to us at Montgomery published in our proceedings there, said, he & others owned them & that they would convey them to us. You should see to this.
