Rt Rev & Dear Sir

It is from no lack
of desire that I am now engaged
in sending you word that I will
not be in attendance at the laying
of the corner stone of the University of
the South for no where could I
more willingly make a trip, were it in
my power.

Dr [F? J?] O Ticknor also of this place
desire me to express their regrets
that circumstances prevent their
attendance
