George

This George Davis was a lawyer, historian and popular speaker. He was the brother of the Rt. Rev. Thomas Frederick Davis, Bishop of South Carolina. His wife was Mary Adelaide Polk, a daughter of Thomas Gilchrist Polk, the half brother of Bishop Leonidas Polk (some father, different mothers). During the Civil War he served in the Confederate Senate, then as Attorney General for the Confederacy. He became a close friend of and advisor to Jefferson Davis.
